Multivariable flow control

Note: only applies to the version with conditional control

If the process flow depends on more than one variable, in most cases, it is sufficient to set the connection order accordingly. When this solution is not sufficient, a system step or a non-editable field can be used.

1. Connection order

The connection order determines the order in which the conditions for moving to the next activity of the process are checked. The system analyzes them from top to bottom and executes the first connection whose conditions are met.

To change the order of connections, use the cursor to select the two-bar icon next to the selected connection and drag it to the appropriate location on the list.

2. System step (activity)

If simply setting the connection sequence doesn’t allow for the required process logic, a system step can be used.

The system step runs an external script, specified in the System Step Address field, which can then add a variable to control the further process flow based on values entered in previous process steps.

3. Non-editable field completed by script

An alternative solution is to use a non-editable field on the form, whose value is populated by an external script.

The script should be assigned to the fields that determine the further course of the process in the Call Address field after a change. Based on the values entered by the user, the script populates the control field, which is then used in the flow conditions.

Using a non-editable control field prevents the user from manually changing its value.

Example:

The next process flow is determined by the values of two fields. The script calculates and populates the control field based on their values. The value of this field is then used in the flow condition to determine which path the process will take.

If both fields are on the same form and their values can change, the onChange action should be assigned to both fields (plugins) so that the script runs whenever the value of either field changes.

Dew-X won us over with its unique combination of transparency and flexibility. The interface is intuitive to use, but the real value lies in the ability to tailor the system to our own processes, rather than forcing the organization to conform to a rigid tool. Equally important was the company’s own approach to implementation: availability at every stage, a positive collaborative atmosphere, and a team that knows its product inside and out.
