Project management

Kanban is a Japanese method of controlling production processes, which is now widely used in project management.

To imagine its practical use, recall a whiteboard, blackboard or wall, which you then divide into three vertical columns, naming them:

To doIn progressDone

Now let’s take some sticky notes and write down all the individual tasks to be done in a given “project”. At first, they will all go to the To Do column (list). When we take on a given task or tasks, we move them to the In Progress column (list), and when we do, to Done.

Boards (Kanban)

Let’s use an example.

Let our project be publishing articles on Facebook.

The columns (lists) could look like this:

To Do – In Progess – To Evaluate – To Improve – Ready to Publish – Published

The cards would look like this:

  1. Topic 1
  2. Topic 2
  3. Topic 3
  4. Topic 4

Cards first go to the To Do list, and then, as a given task (card) progresses, they are moved between lists. You always know at what stage your project is.

Interesting?

Now let’s imagine all this functions in an IT system in which additionally:

  • Board, lists and tasks are shared
  • Each card may have a description
  • Tasks can be assigned to specific people
  • Set a deadline
  • Add attachments
  • Receive notifications about changes that concern us.

And that’s exactly what Boards (Kanban) are in Dew-X
